Former Chelsea star Nemanja Matic has opened the door to a return to Stamford Bridge, but has insisted that it is not something set in stone, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues have been chasing the Benfica star for a number of weeks and, despite concurring interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester United, look to have taken pole position in the race for the Serbian’s signature.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are now hot favourites to secure his signature this month, and Matic has done little quell the speculation.

Despite stating that a move was some way of being guaranteed, he was quick to inform that he would be ready to talk to Chelsea as long as Benfica were happy with the transfer fee.

“I still can't say anything about this, let's see what happens in the future, you have to ask the club and the president,” Matic said.

"If it's good for the club and for me, we'll talk. Let's see what happens until 31 January."

Chelsea are thought to have offered £20million for the 25-year-old, who is expected to now undergo a medical in west London on Tuesday ahead of a possible move.

Matic originally moved to Benfica from the Blues as part of the 2011 deal which saw David Luiz coming the other way.
