Cristiano Ronaldo was last night named winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the second time in his career.
The Real Madrid and Portugal star had a year to remember on a personal level, beating rivals Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to the award that he last won back in 2008.
Ronaldo scored 66 goals in 56 games in all competitions for club and country in 2013, making him the stand-out individual performer in the calendar year.
"First of all, I have to say a great thanks to all of my team-mates with the club and the national team," Ronaldo said, as he fought back tears during his speech.
Germany goalkeeper Nadine Angerer was named Women’s world player of the year, whilst former Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes scooped the male coach of the year prize.
Brazilian legend Pele received the honorary award on a glittering night in Zurich, whilst Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic won the Puskas Award for his goal against England.
To celebrate last night’s Award winners, we look back at the best pictures from an emotional night in Switzerland. Enjoy…
