Liverpool could be poised to jump at the chance to bring in Sevilla star Ivan Rakitic if the showdown talks expected to be held between himself and the club don’t go to plan this week.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are monitoring Rakitic’s situation with great interest and could make a move to pinch him ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Both English giants have been consistently linked with him in recent months and, following suggestions he may not be entirely happy at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, may battle it out to determine who can take advantage of his status.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Croatian playmaker is set for crunch talks over his future at Sevilla, with his current release clause of €40million set to be substantially lowered.

Brendan Rodgers is has been linked in connection to wanting to bring Rakitic to Anfield, but will undoubtedly face competition from David Moyes if the 25-year-old is made available.
