Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to bring Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler to Anfield, reports talkSPORT

The Swiss ace, who is currently plying his trade under former Reds boss Rafa Benitez, was wanted by Roy Hodgson when he was in charge of the Anfield outfit.

Inler has been in fine form for the Italian outfit this season and now Rodgers has set his sights on bringing the 29-year-old to Merseyside.

It's expected that Liverpool will make a move for the midfield star in the summer, but will face difficulty in bringing the player to Anfield as Benitez doesn't want to sell.

Rodgers will be hoping to add extra competition into his midfield and, with captain Steven Gerrard now at 33-years of age, the Reds will have to look for a long term replacement for the veteran in years to come.

Liverpool's immediate focus will be on their clash with Aston Villa this weekend. The Reds will be hoping to secure their fourth straight win in all competitions against Paul Lambert's side on Saturday evening.
