Mesut Özil has revealed his delight at being able to play alongside Tomas Rosicky in the Arsenal midfield and believes the Czech to be one of the Premier League's best midfielders.

Özil joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day for a club record £42.4million and has been hailed as one of the reasons as to why Arsene Wenger's team are sitting at the top of the table mid-way through January.

The Germany international is second in the Premier League assists table with seven and is regularly labelled the best midfielder in the competition, but he hailed teammate Rosicky for the contribution he has made this season.

Rosicky recently said how much of a pleasure it was to play alongside the former Real Madrid playmaker and Özil explained that the pleasure was all his.

"The feeling is mutual because we are similar types of player," he the official Arsenal website.

"We're strong when we're on the ball, we play quickly and I have lots of fun playing alongside the team.

"In my opinion Tomas belongs to the best midfielders in the Premier League. When you see how much he gives for the team and how he enjoys being on the ball it makes us happy to have a player like that in our ranks."

Rosicky has been one of the Gunners most consistent performers over the past year or so, having finally recovered from a series of long-term injury issues that severely limited his playing time for the best part of two years.

His contract is set to expire at the end of the season but Wenger recently confirmed the 33-year-old would be staying on at the club and will be agreeing a new contract.
