Manchester United should prioritise Gundogan over Pogba

Manchester United have today been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The 23-year-old German international is reportedly attracting interest from both Manchester United and Real Madrid after failing to rule out the possibility of leaving Dortmund in the near future.

Gundogan has played just one game for Bundesliga outfit Dortmund this season as he has been nursing a back injury since the first game of the current campaign.

European duo Manchester United and Real Madrid remain keen on luring Gundogan away from Germany - despite having not seen the deep-lying playmaker in action since the beginning of August.

His injury could actually make him more of an attractive signing as he is eligible to play in Europe having been ruled out of Dortmund's Champions League campaign so far this season.

Several other Manchester United targets such as Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio on the other hand would not be able to represent the Red Devils in Europe for the remainder of the season.

Gundogan would be the perfect fit at Old Trafford as he is capable of scoring and creating goals, as seen with his performances last season when he netted five times from a deep-lying role.

The German international's current deal at Dortmund runs out at the end of next season which means the Black and Yellows will probably choose to cash in on Gundogan either by the end of the month or in the summer if they cannot tie him down to a new long-term deal.

Jurgen Klopp's side have a major decision to make because they could either sell him now for a reported £25million, wait until the summer and hope he impresses at the World Cup before selling their prize asset for a larger fee or pray that he signs a new deal in the next couple of months.

Either way, Manchester United should make sure they are ready to pounce if Gundogan does become available either in January or at the end of the season.
