LA Dodgers still keen on Tanaka

The LA Dodgers could still sign Masahiro Tanaka despite already spending over $200 Million on Clayton Kershaw's contract extension.

That is the view of Stan Kasten, the Dodgers' President and co-owner when he addressed the media earlier today.

"Nothing precludes anything else. Everything has to be evaluated independently." Kasten said when asked about the possibility of signing Tanaka.

It has previously been indicated that Tanaka's wife would prefer a move to the west coast for career purposes which could give the advantage to the Dodgers.

The New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are also supposedly interested in signing the 25 year old pitcher.

Kasten also told the media that he regarded Kershaw as being the best pitcher in the league and was compelled to sign him to a long-term deal because of his relative youth.

He also apologised for Kershaw's absence at the press conference: "Clayton's in Texas, he's had an awfully busy off-season. Made a couple of cross-country trips and he's at home."

Tanaka is due to make a decision about his future by the end of the month.
