Manchester United appear set to lose out on rumoured target Remy Cabella, as his father has claimed that he is close to joining Premier League rivals Newcastle.

The Metro reports that the Frenchman is on the verge of securing a £12million switch from Montpellier to Tyneside, and his father admitted that the move is only days away.

Hector Cabella, who is also his son’s agent, revealed: “Yes we are negotiating Remy’s transfer.

“He will join Newcastle this winter.”

Only last week did the French club say that no deal for Cabella would be considered until the summer, but they appear to have made a U-turn following negotiations with Newcastle and now Alan Pardew looks set to beat David Moyes to the attacking midfielder.

United have in the past been linked with Cabella, but it is understood that they have made no approach of their own for the 23-year-old.

The news is unlikely to bother the reigning Premier League champions too much as they appear to be focusing on deals for Ezequiel Garay and Ilkay Gundogan.
