Manchester United could be on the verge of a surprise move for Bayern Munich defender Dante.

The defender has emerged as a regular at the back for the German giants in recent seasons and has made 15 out of 16 possible starts in the Bundesliga under new boss Pep Guardiola.

However reports in Brazil surfaced today that Dante, who has two years left on his contract, could be on his way to Manchester United - and the defender added fuel to the fire by refusing to rule out a switch to Old Trafford.

When asked if he had joined Manchester United he responded "not yet" - before adding: "I'm thankful for the Manchester United interest, it will all be sorted out by the end of the month."

The Red Devils are likely to lose defensive stalwarts Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand over the next year or so and will need reinforcements - however with Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling on their books it is difficult to predict what Dante's status will be should he arrive at Old Trafford.

The Bayern Munich man isn't the only United transfer target today either; a host of reports suggested they are interested in landing Juan Mata from Chelsea.

They may have to cough up £40 million if the want to get their man however, while Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has previously insisted he is not for sale.
