The New Orleans Pelicans’ trade for point guard Tyshawn Taylor from the Brooklyn Nets has become official, the team said Tuesday morning.

The Pelicans sent to the Nets the rights to Edin Bavcic, a 6-foot-11 center from Bosnia.

Taylor, 6-3, was obtained to help fill the void created by an injury to starting point guard Jrue Holiday, who has a fractured right tibia and said he is expected to be out at least until Feb. 8.

Taylor was a second-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012, the 41st pick overall. He was traded to Brooklyn on draft night for cash.

Taylor played collegiately at Kansas, where he was a teammate of Pelicans rookie center Jeff Withey. The two were on the Jayhawks’ 2012 team that lost to Kentucky in the NCAA championship game.

“He’s a really crafty point guard; he knows how to change speeds really well,” Withey said. “He likes to get to the basket and look for other people when he’s down there.
