Manchester United officials are in London to work on a deal for Juan Mata and one other European-based midfielder, according to ESPN.

Officials from Old Trafford have been in London since Monday negotiating a mega money deal for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.

The deal, reported to be worth up to £40m, is thought to be close to completion with sources from Manchester United suggesting that Mata could be a Red Devil by the weekend.

However, United are not just in London to negotiate with Chelsea and are believed to be negotiating another deal for a "European-based midfielder" - believed to be Juventus star Arturo VIdal.

David Moyes is thought to be a big fan of the midfield enforcer and, despite the fact that player signed a new deal recently, is confident of enticing him to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are prepared to offer Vidal a significant wage rise but know he is unlikely to leave Turin halfway through the season. Instead, United officials are gearing towards a summer move for the Chilean international.

The Premier League champions have got a long summer list of transfers targets with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Lucas Moura, Arturo Vidal, Koke and Claudio Marchisio thought to be included.
