Roger Federer is through to the semi-final of the Australian Open after overpowering Andy Murray 6-3 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 in an entertaining encounter in Melbourne.
The world number six came out fighting, taking the first and second sets before The British number one fought back in the third set, which saw Federer fail to take advantage of eight break point opportunities.
However the Swiss was relentless and took advantage of Murray who didn't seem 100 per cent to take the match 3-1 in four sets.
After the match Federer spoke about his rise in confidence compared to last year:
"My confidence is much higher than it was last year, and that's very satisfying. I have more confidence in my movement.
"Last year I felt it wasn't quite right. You can still play, but it's not quite the same when you have big opportunities in matches. That's what I felt last year, but I kept on playing and kept working hard and now here I am in the semi-finals."
Federer will now face world number one Rafa Nadal in the semi-finals after his hard fought victory over Grigor Dimitrov earlier today.
When asked if he was looking forward to his encounter against Nadal, Federer said:
"I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure it's going to be a good match. It's going to be tough and brutal but I've got a day off and I'm looking forward to it. We've had some epics over the years. He had an amazing comeback last year so it's great to see him back."
The winner of Nadal's encounter with Federer will play either Stanislas Wawrinka or Tomáš Berdych in the Australian Open final.
