Arsenal are expected to negotiate over the phone with Bundesliga outfit Schalke this weekend in a bid to bring Julian Draxler to north London, reports The Metro

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the midfield ace in recent time and now it appears that the Arsenal hierarchy are stepping up their pursuit of the highly talented German ace.

However, reports have suggested that Arsenal aren't willing to pay Draxler's full £37m buyout clause and are instead ready to offer a structured £28m deal over a four year period

Gunners fans will be hoping that the club can complete a move for the midfielder in this transfer window as they go in search of Premier League success this season.

Arsenal currently sit tip of the league table and are hoping to end their eight-year trophy drought this season.

Arsene Wenger's immediate attention will turn to his side's FA Cup clash with Coventry City tonight as the Gunners look to make it through to the fifth round of the competition.
