With the acquisition of Juan Mata, Manchester United fans might think that their fortunes might change. But this is certainly not an Eric Cantona situation where one man single handedly turns round a team's season and I think the Manchester United boss will have to get another two or three players in.
David Moyes has been travelling a lot these days to scout players fit for the club himself. He has been spotted recently in Germany and Italy watching the likes of Arturo Vidal, Marco Reus and İlkay Gündoğan.
If we have a look at the realistic and most probable signings it has to Arturo Vidal and İlkay Gündoğan. Both these stars are exactly the kind of players Man United have been lacking for years since the departure of Roy Keane. Moyes might have signed Marouane Fellaini in the summer but he is just not the right successor to the Irishman.
Vidal would certainly add a new dimension to the Reds midfield, his whole-hearted commitment and box-to-box energy would remind many of Roy Keane in his prime.
The latter İlkay Gündoğan possesses the seizing abilities of a holding midfielder while still proving dangerous in both build-up and attack. He would be the perfect partner for Michael Carrick and later on a good replacement for the ageing England international.
The German international had an 87% pass completion during the 2012/2013 Bundesliga season and his creativity would benefit the Manchester club a lot.
If Moyes gets his signings right this time and with the right players in the distorted midfield, United can still finish the season strongly. A Vidal and / or Gundogan along with Mata led midfield should galvanise the squad strongly.
Who do you think Moyes should target ?
