The New York Rangers used a 4-0 second period to overcome a spirited New Jersey Devils performance to seal a 7-3 win.
A huge crowd of 50,105 took their seat inside the Yankee Stadium to watch the Stadium Series tie between the rivals.
The Devils looked like they would be taking a win back to Garden State, storming in to a 3-1 lead in the first period.
Dominic Moore had levelled things up following Patrick Elias' opener for the Devils but Elias' second and a marker from Travis Zajac gave New Jersey firm control.
But they failed to replicate their fine form for the rest of the game and failed to find the net again.
The Rangers seeked to take advantage of New Jersey's complacency and they did so in the second period. Marc Staal brought the deficit down to one before Mats Zuccarello scored a brace to give New York the lead.
Carl Hagelin and Rick Nash set New York apart before Derek Stepan sealed the tie with the first successful penalty shot in an outdoor NHL game.
The win keeps New York in control of the second play-off spot in the Metropolitan division while New Jersey remain four games away from the last guaranteed spot.
