LeBron James was a happy man indeed after Liverpool secured a resounding victory over Everton in one of the most eagerly-awaited Merseyside derbies in decades.

Victory at Anfield ensured the Reds moved four points clear of their neighbours and reinforced their position in the coveted top four places of the Premier League, while Everton remain in sixth position.

Steven Gerrard opened the scoring before a brace from Daniel Sturridge, while Luis Suarez netted his 23rd league goal of the campaign as Liverpool laid waste to the Blues, who have been earning plaudits for their performances under Roberto Martinez.

It was a result that also sent shockwaves over the other side of the Atlantic, with Miami Heat superstar James tweeting his congratulations to Liverpool following the 4-0 victory.

He posted: "Great win @LFC vs Everton today! Keep it going guys #GoReds #YoullNeverWalkAlone #StriveForGreatness."

James, along with manager Maverick Carter, became a minority shareholder in Liverpool following the acquisition of the club by Fenway Sports Group in 2011.
