Major League Baseball has sent a formal request for Alex Rodriguez's lawsuit against his ban be quickly tossed out, reports CBS Sports.

The Associated Press has reported that Howard Ganz, an MLB lawyer, has sent a formal letter to  U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos claiming that Rodriguez's justification for filing the lawsuit do not come close to justify an overturn of an arbitration decision in federal court.

The letter, which was filed on Wednesday, also served to remind the court that a court does not have the power to re-examine the merits of an arbitration decision.

Judge Ramos has confirmed that a conference addressing the letter for February 14 and told Rodriguez's representatives to respond to the letter by February 7.

It is all looking very bleak for A-Rod, who was banned for the entirety of the 2014 season and postseason due to his links to Biogenesis, the former Florida-based clinic found to be supplying performance enhancers to professional athletes.

The arbitrator's decision was immediately challenged by the New York Yankees slugger, who immediately filed a federal lawsuit against MLB.

The lawsuit, which also fights against the Players Association, has burned many bridges between Rodriguez and his peers.
