Liverpool have increased their offer for FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk playmaker Yevhen Konoplyanka to £16 million, according to reports in the Ukraine cited by the Daily Mirror.
The aforementioned source claims that the Reds were only initially willing to pay £14.8 million for the talented midfielder, but are now willing to increase such a bid to sign a player who the club are reportedly willing to pay £60,000-per-week.
Those same reports also claim that Tottenham are no longer in the running for the player's signature, but that there is interest from an as-of-yet unnamed Bundesliga club.
24-year-old Konoplyanka, a versatile attacker who is one of the stars of the Ukrainian Premier League, appears to have attracted a lot of attention of late, with reports claiming that Manchester United - as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal - have been watching him.
Defending Premier League champions Manchester United, who have endured somewhat of a difficult 2013/14 campaign to date under the tutelage of David Moyes, recently completed a deal worth £37.1 million for former Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata.
And while Moyes would perhaps be considered wise to continue his pursuit of attacking reinforcements, it seems somewhat unlikely that he will make any late swoop for Konoplyanka given that he would occupy a similar role to Mata at Manchester Unuted.
Liverpool, though, who secured a thumping 4-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Tuesday night, lack obvious depth in the wide areas and a player of the Ukrainian international's versatility and stature could help them in their push to keep pace for a top-four finish and the ultimate goal of Champions League qualification.
Konoplyanka himself, who has eight goals to his name in 35 appearances for his country, appears excited by the prospect of moving to Liverpool.
"LFC?," he was quoted by the Daily Mirror. I"m so excited about it and soon you will know where I will play.
"It's all very serious. I'm shocked myself. It will all be clear very soon."
