Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka has been likened in playing style to Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, by former Kop favourite John Scales.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Scales said that he believes the Ukraine international has what it takes to help fire the Reds into the Champions League, via a top four finish in the Premier League this season.
Brendan Rodgers is still on the lookout for reinforcements with transfer deadline day fast approaching, and has identified the 24-year-old midfielder for a possible move to Anfield.
If latest reports are to be believed, Liverpool are close to agreeing a £16million deal for the Dnipro star, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
"He's a very talented player," said Scales. "He's got a very good reputation and people have seen what he's capable of playing against England.
"If you look at that Ukraine team he is one of two or three very good players. From what I've seen of him, I've been massively impressed.
"He's very much in the style of Arjen Robben in that he likes cutting in from wide areas. He's very quick and looks to me like an intelligent player.
"It's certainly an area they are looking at strengthening and Konoplyanka is just the sort of player they do need to bring in. If he did come, he would be a great acquisition."
The January window has proved to be somewhat frustrating for Liverpool fans, after watching their club miss out on multiple transfer targets.
However, regardless of whether or not they manage to bring anyone in before Friday's deadline, Scales believes the Reds are on the up.
"Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job there," he added. "It's no surprise he's identifying top talent to improve his squad.
"If they can't bring him in, Spurs nick him or neither side get him, Brendan will be satisfied.
"But every manager will tell you that bringing in a fresh face will always put you in a better position.
"Whatever happens, I still think they have enough to finish in the top four."
