Manchester United make shock £12.3m bid for Chelsea target

Manchester United have lodged a £12.3million bid for Porto centre-back Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports.

Goal claims to have knowledge of that the reigning Premier League champions have offered a sum for the Chelsea target in the hope that they will allow him to leave the club and keep team-mate Eliaquim Mangala.

Otamendi has repeatedly been linked with a move to the English top flight in the past, with Chelsea having come close to signing him on a number of occasions. However it now seems as though he could finally make the long anticipated switch across Europe, if suggestions that David Moyes has offered the mooted figure are believed to be true.

Both Otamendi and Mangala have been targeted by different clubs this window but it’s thought that Porto will only consent to one of them leaving. This means in effect that United could deal rivals Manchester City a blow whilst at the same time strengthening their own squad. If the Red Devils land their Argentinian target then City may lose out on Mangala as a result.

United’s need for a new centre-back has been well documented this term and as such the news is likely to boost the spirits of the fans.
