Cardiff City have joined the race to sign Manchester United target Davide Astori.

The Daily Mail claim former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on stealing Astori away from under the nose of David Moyes.

Manchester United boss Moyes was spotted at Cagliari's Stadio Sant'Elia at the beginning of January.

The Manchester United boss was reportedly running the rule over Cagliari defender Astori along with Juventus' Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal.

Astori, who has been capped seven times by Italy, is also said to be attracting interest from Premier League duo Southampton and Tottenham.

However Cardiff appear to be leading the race to sign the 27-year-old defender as they have made an official enquiry for Astori.

Astori, who is said to be valued at £10million, would join the likes of Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha and Kenwyne Jones at the Cardiff City Stadium if he was to complete a move to the Bluebirds before tonight's 11pm deadline.
