Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen might be British, but that doesn't mean they aren't gripped by football fever like most of the United States is right now.

Super Bowl XLVIII takes place this Sunday, with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Denver Broncos at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and the aforementioned British actors are quite clearly excited.

A little earlier today, Stewart posted a photograph of himself and McKellen on Twitter standing there draped in the colours of the two competing Super Bowl sides.

Stewart is wearing the Seahawks' jersey, while McKellen is seen wearing the colours of the Broncos.

However, the duo are also holding a soccer ball in the photograph, making the point that the word 'football' means very different things on either side of the Atlantic.

The image is also accompanied by the word "Football!"

The image has already amassed over 16,000 retweets and been favourited over 11,000 times.
