Leicester City are hopeful goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will sign a new contract with the club, reports The Daily Star.

The 'keeper has been in fine form this season and has played a key role in helping the Foxes reach the top of the Championship table.

And if Schmeichel does sign a new deal with the club, the news will come as a blow to Manchester United who will be looking to replace Anders Lindegaard at the end of the season.

Lindegaard is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer and it had been reported that Manchester United boss David Moyes had identified Schmeichel as his replacement.

Schmeichel's dad, Peter, is a legend at Manchester United and it remains to be seen as to whether Kasper will follow in his footsteps.

If Schmeichel was to join Manchester United, he would have to go head-to-head with current Red Devils No.1 David de Gea.
