Floyd Mayweather asks fans to choose next opponent

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has taken to his Twitter account to ask fans to vote on who he should face next in the ring.

The 36-year-old American fighter has kept the boxing world in the dark as to who he intends to face in Las Vegas this May, with reports last week suggesting that Amir Khan - the former two-time world champion - had already signed his part of the deal for a lucrative bout against 'Money' and was just waiting for Mayweather to do the same.

However, such reports appear to have been somewhat premature, with Mayweather obviously still undecided just who he intends to face.

The options appear to have been narrowed down to Khan and WBA Welterweight champion Marcos Maidana.

"I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?" the 36-year-old tweeted on Monday before posting an Instagram image of his two prospective opponents. The stunt appears to have been unsurprisingly popular with fans, with thousands of likes, retweets and comments across both social media platforms.

While it will be intriguing to see just who the fans select and indeed whether Mayweather will allow that to persuade him either way and commit to the fight, it seems unlikely that either will be able to provide a serious threat to his stellar unbeaten record.

At 46-0, Mayweather is arguably the greatest fighter of this generation and his last win - a majority decision against Mexican middlweight Saul 'El Canelo' Alvarez at the MGM Grand in September - was typically dominant.
