Manchester United youngster Tom Thorpe has returned to Old Trafford after picking up an ankle injury on his Birmingham City debut, reports The Daily Star.
Thorpe left Old Trafford for City on deadline day alongside Tyler Blackett and Federico Macheda and the trio all made their debuts against Derby County on Saturday.
However, having picked up an ankle ligament injury after just 14 minutes, the 21-year-old has now returned to the Theatre of Dreams.
Birmingham boss Lee Clark told reporters: "He's a terrific kid. We're devastated for him.
"We were absolutely delighted to get someone of his quality.
"Manchester United rate him so highly and he's been a brilliant lad."
Thorpe will now stay at Manchester United's Carrington base as he looks to recover from this injury setback. The injury will come as a major blow to the youngster who had hoped to gain some first-team experience in the second half of this season.
It remains to be seen as to how long the youngster will be out of action for after picking up the injury, with both Manchester United and Birmingham City hoping he makes a quick recovery.
