A Super Bowl ring that was awarded to a member of the New England Patriots during the infamous spygate era will be sold at auction it has been announced.

The ring belonged to Matt Estrella, an intern with the Patriots during their 2005 victory, New England's third championship in four years.

Estrella was found to be filming the signals of the New York Jets defensive coaches in 2007 and the Patriots were fined $250,000. New England coach Bill Belichick was also fined an additional $500,000.

Estrella continued to work for the team until 2009. The intern had previously sold the ring in 2012 but the ring is once again up for sale.

The current bid for the piece of this rather unique piece of memorabilia stands at over $6,000 and the ring is due to be sold on Friday at Goldin Auctions.

The Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles  24-21 in Jacksonville to win Super Bowl XXXIX with Deion Branch named as MVP.
