New York Knicks duo J. R. Smith and Raymond Felton have jumped to the defence of their side's under-fire head coach Mike Woodson.

Woodson has been under severe pressure this season as the Eastern Conference franchise have struggled for form.

The Knicks are currently two places outside of the playoffs as they have won just 19 out of their first 49 games.

Woodson's side are in desperate need of a win after losing their last three games.

Rumours at the week suggested Woodson could be given the boot in the next few weeks, however Smith believes the players are to blame.

Speaking to the New York Post, Smith said on Woodson's future:

“Yeah, without a doubt," said Smith. "I think in that situation, we as players have to look at ourselves in the mirror and understand that he’s doing everything he can for us.

"It’s just a matter of us taking the information and putting it out there on the court.

“They’re giving us everything that the teams are doing defensively, we have so many offensive players, we have scorers, guys who play defense.

"We just have to put it all together as players. Coaches, like I said, they can only do but so much.”

Felton echoed Smith's sentiments by stating the Knicks have to stick together in order to get out of their recent slump.

The Knicks take on the Denver Nuggets at Madison Square Garden on Friday night in a game that could go a long way in determining Woodson's future.
