Rooney talks up Pittsburgh Super Bowl

Steelers owner Art Rooney II is keen on bringing the Super Bowl to Pittsburg following the success of last weekend’s cold-weather Super Bowl in New Jersey.

The cool temperatures did not negatively impact on Super Bowl XLVIII, and this has encouraged Rooney to step up his interest in bringing the biggest game of the NFL calendar to Pennsylvania-based city in the future.

"I think it would be great for our city," Rooney was quoted as saying by CBS Sports. "This, in some people's mind, is the birthplace of professional football. We certainly have a great tradition of being a football kind of town. I think it would be a great thing for us to do at some point."

More northern cities are also believed to be keen to host future Super Bowls - but Rooney wants Pittsburgh to be amongst the first.

"I think in the future there's going to be more opportunities for Northern cities to bid on the game," the 61-year-old added. "I think it would be great for our city to explore it. It's something we want to explore over the next year or so to see if there's an interest in pursuing it."

The question now is how long will Pittsburg or another northern city need to wait before hosting the next cold-weather game?

Or will the NFL continue to take the showpiece fixture to more glamorous - and warmer - locations like Miami?
