Chicago Bulls to be active before trade deadline

The Chicago Bulls are right now trying to think of everything they can do to bring in players without spending money.

The team made some cost cutting decisions earlier in the year, which ended up with Loul Deng being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for cap relief, but the team remain close to the luxury tax threshold whilst still needing to bring players in.

K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune, says the Bulls are looking to add a couple of players at the deadline, possibly making the team active on February 20th.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said he’d like to carry the league maximum 15 players, but understands if that might not be possible.

“I would like to have all 15 (allowed) but right now it’s not possible,” Thibodeau said. “I think cap management is important. You have to make good, sound decisions, so that’s what we’re trying to do.

As I’ve said, we feel good about the guys we do have here. If someone goes down, the next guy gets in there, understands his job and gets it done.”

The Bulls are running with just 12 players on their roster at the moment, something that is causing depth issues and not ideal considering the injuries they are carrying, notably Derrick Rose.

The team may not make a trade to fill roster spots, as signing a veteran free agent is an option with 38-year old Mike James being a name dropped by Coach Thibodeau in the interview as a potential signee.
