The rivalry between the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels is one of the best in all of sports. And it seems that the mutual dislike comes to the fore even in exhibition games.

Last night, the basketball/equipment managers of the two sides played in their annual game that occurs before the real game takes place.

What should have been harmless fun between the two sets of part timers turned into something much more serious however.

With the first half coming to a close, a North Carolina manager grabbed a rebound and Duke freshman Drew Goldstein made a play for the ball.

In the act of creating space, the Tar Heel swung his elbows, knocking Goldstein to the floor.

A brawl started out on the hardwood with both benches clearing to try and sort out the ruckus evolving in front of their eyes.

After a whole lot of pushing and shoving, and the throwing of a few choice words, the game settled down again.

North Carolina staffers came out on top in the encounter, winning 38-33 in the ultra-competitive match up hosted in Chapel Hill.

You can get pretty decent odds on the Tar Heels winning by the same margin later tonight. Duke are 2.5 point favourites to be victorious for in this years edition of the age old encounter.
