After 19 seasons with the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter will retire at the end of the new Major League Baseball season, and fans from across the US have been paying their tributes via social media.

Jeter has been one of the most famous ball players in recent MLB history, and he's helped guide the Yankees to five World Series titles in his time in the game.

His final regular season is scheduled to be against the rival-Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park of all places in the autumn of 2014.

The Yankees have their fair share of haters across the baseball spectrum, but it seems Jeter has brought together all baseball fans as they commemorate him on his skills.

See below for several twitter comments from fans regarding Jeter's retirement at the end of the 2014 season.

As much as I hate the Yankees, I have a lot of respect for Derek Jeter! Great hitter, and fielder! Best of luck in retirement Jeter!

I still can't believe Derek Jeter is gonna retire after this season. I still haven't grasp this yet.

Even if you hate the Yankees, Derek Jeter retiring is upsetting to all

As big of a Red Sox fan as I am, saying goodbye to Derek Jeter's career will be a little sad.
