The game featuring Arsenal and Manchester United failed to cut out a winner, ending in a bore 0-0 draw.

But one head-to-head battle between the Gunners and the Red Devils ended with a clear winner.

Mesut Ozil, Arsenal's record signing at £42.5m, lined up against Juan Mata, Manchester United's record signing at £37.1m, for the first time at the Emirates last night in what was a hotly anticipated tie.

The playmaking juggernauts cost the two Premier League rivals close to a combined £80m, with many seeing their performances as key to a potential victory.

Despite taking some heavy criticism, Ozil came out as a clear winner for the Gunners, bettering Mata's performance in almost every measurable stats.

The German international created seven goal scoring chances for his Arsenal team mates, who failed to convert any of them. Mata, on the other hand, could only create one opportunity for his United teammates, struggling to grow into the game before being taken off for Adnan Januzaj.

Not only was Ozil better at creating chances, but he also completed more passes at a higher success rate, won more duels and made more recoveries from the ones he lost.

Although Mata played around 15 minutes less than Ozil, the Arsenal playmaker is so far ahead in the stats, it is hard to him bridging the gap.
