Manchester United plan £13m move for Vidic replacement

Manchester United manager David Moyes could make a £13m offer for Atletico Madrid centre-back Joao Miranda this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Moyes is on the hunt for a new centre-back after club captain Nemanja Vidic recently announced his decision to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season, while Rio Ferdinand has yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension.

Manchester United, if both central defenders leave the club this summer, would still be left with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

However, Moyes is determined to bring in a more experienced centre-back to help United recover from what has been a nightmare season, and the beleaguered Scot has identified Miranda as a realistic summer target.

Red Devils’ scouts have produced positive reports after watching the Brazil international on five occasions since December.

However, Moyes has also been strongly linked with moves for Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay and FC Porto’s highly-rated defender Eliaquim Mangala in recent weeks.
