River Plate match held up by dumping dog

River Plate’s visit to Rosario Central on Sunday night descended into farce as a stray dog, which nobody seemed able or willing to apprehend, halted play as it defecated on the pitch.

It’s hard to believe that an encounter in Argentina’s top division could be brought to a standstill by a canine pitch invader, and it appeared as though the players and officials were equally as perplexed as they struggled to know what to do.

The failure to escort the dog from the field of play backfired somewhat as it chose to squat down and do its business on the pitch before, eventually, it was carried off with the crowd in raptures.

Meanwhile, the spoils were shared at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito with the game ending 1-1.
