Chelsea eye deal for Man United's summer target

Chelsea have set their sights on bringing Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to reports.

The Guardian claims that Jose Mourinho is determined to add a high-profile striker to his squad this squad at the end of the season and, with Robert Lewandowski all set to join the Bavarians in the next transfer window, Mandzukic could very well become available.

Of course this isn’t the first time the Blues have been linked with the Croatian forward as earlier on this month it was rumoured that Mourinho had made a list of potential targets which included the 27-year-old.

However now it would appear that the Special One may be concentrating his efforts on securing Mandzukic’s signature ahead of the likes of Edinson Cavani and Diego Costa, both alternate mooted options.

With Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba all somewhat misfiring this campaign, it’s clear that Chelsea need to bring in a new forward if they are to realise their true potential.

They will likely be rivalled for any transfer target they choose to go for, as the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid are also thought to be on the look out for top class forwards.

United in particular have also registered their interest in Mandzukic and so we could easily be treated to a summer transfer battle between the two English heavyweights.
