Cavs set to trade Dion Waiters

According to reports the Cleveland Cavaliers are serious about improving their roster with the trade deadline coming up in a couple of days.

These improvements could also see 4th overall draft pick Dion Waiters being used as a make-weight in any deal. From Hoops Rumours:

"If the Cavs are determined to make a playoff push, they’ll offer Dion Waiters and their 2014 first-round pick in search of veteran help."

While Waiters has had his struggles, he and a solid first round pick isn’t a very bad haul. Of course, it’s not known how significant of an upgrade the Cavaliers are looking for.

A certain likelihood could be the Los Angeles Lakers potentially offering up Pau Gasol again. And a Luol Deng, Kyrie Irving and Gasol trio would certainly make the Cavs contenders in a relatively woeful Eastern Conference.

For this to happen however Cleveland would likely need assurance that Gasol would re-sign come season end before parting with such high quality assets as Waiters and a first round pick, only for Gasol to leave in free agency.

The Cavs are wanting to improve and become a solid playoff team in an attempt to do everything possible to try and make them look as desirable as they can to LeBron James, an impending free agent.

Cavs ownership group is desperate for the reigning MVP to comeback to Cleveland, and the only way it would happen would be if they had a team capable of making a bid for the NBA title.

And if the starting lineup included Kyrie Irving, Luol Deng, Pau Gasol and others, then maybe Ohio would be making LBJ turn his head.
