Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on former Arsenal star Alex Song, with regards to a possible move for the Barcelona man in the summer.

Song moved to Camp Nou from Emirates Stadium in 2012 but has failed to make his mark with the Catalan club, rarely starting and being moved between centre-back and central midfield.

Now Calciomercato are claiming that Manchester United manager David Moyes has been watching the 26-year-old and is considering making a move for him in the summer transfer window.

Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season following the retirement of the most successful British manager of all time but it has not been an easy ride in for the new man in the hot seat at Old Trafford.

A lack of cover in front of the back four has been a regular criticism of the reigning Premier League champions this season, something that Song did effectively for the Gunners for a number of years.

Such was the Cameroon international's prominence in the Arsenal midfield, it came as a surprise to many when manager Arsene Wenger decided to accept a £15million offer from Barcelona for his services.
