Devastating news for fans of Miami Heat center Chris Andersen and/or mohawks: Birdman now has a normal haircut.

A photograph of the 35-year-old sans mohawk was posted on Twitter by South Florida SunSentinel reporter Ira Winderman late on Tuesday night.

Birdman is renowned for his flamboyant haircut and tattoos, but perhaps he felt like the time had come to start growing up a bit.

Winderman quoted Andersen as saying “less maintenance” as they primary reason behind his decision to get rid of the mohawk.

However, casual NBA viewers will stay be able to recognise him thanks to those aforementioned tattoos, and of course the beard.

Birdman, who previously played for the Denver Nuggets before joining Heat last year, won the NBA championship with his mohawk intact.

Will he be as successful without it in 2014?
