This season's Champions League knockout stages got underway in some style last night with Barcelona's efficient 2-0 victory over Manchester City, which featured another masterful midfield display from Spanish playmaker supreme.

Xavi is firmly established as one of the Champions League's most consistent performers on a long-term basis and has an appearance record to match, with last night's showing against City his 138th in Europe's premier club competition.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was also at his frighteningly fantastic best on Tuesday night, one of the 18 players who have reached three figures for Champions League appearances.
