New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees has attempted to cool the controversy surrounding Jimmy Graham's contract extension by reaching out to the receiver via twitter.

Graham believes that he should be treated as a wide receiver rather than a tightend if the Saints decide to use the franchise tag on the player in free agency.

Teams are required to spend around $11 million on franchise wide receivers but only $6.8 million on tightends. The Saints may be unwilling to spend almost twice as much on Graham through a technicality even if the player is one of their greatest offensive weapons.

Brees however, has made it clear where he stands by sending out a number of messages to Graham on twitter.

The first accompanied a picture of Graham playing for the University of Miami basketball team and read.

"@TheJimmyGraham looking shredded ..On 3/9/06..beat Clemson 66-63 in the ACC Tournament My guy JG rocking double zeros!"

The second was a reply to a picture that Graham tweeted of him paddleboarding shirtless:

“@TheJimmyGraham:  look forward 2 paddling with you in Nola this offseason JG!"

It's clear that Brees wants Graham to stay, and with good reason, the receiver had 86 receptions for 1,215 yards in the regular season alone as the Saints made it to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Only time will tell if Brees gets his wish and Graham, ultimately gets his money.
