Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer are not only international teammates - they're also old school pals.

The two players went head-to-head during last night's Champions League last 16 first leg clash, while an old photograph showing them side-by-side in their school's football team simultaneously went viral.

Amusingly, neither the young Ozil or Neuer are looking directly at the camera when the photo was taken - but it still would have been easy enough to pick them out without the imposed red circles around their heads.

The two world-class footballers attended the Gesamtschule Berger Feld school, which is situated close to Schalke’s Veltins Arena.

However, Ozil will be ruing the fact that he attended the same school at Neuer this morning.

The German attacking midfielder had an early penalty saved by his old schoolmate, as Bayern Munich went on to secure a comfortable 2-0 win.
