Police have obtained evidence that appears to show Ray Rice knocking his fiancée unconscious, reports ESPN.

Rice and Janay Palmer were both arrested earlier this week for simple assault following an incident at a casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Reports at the time suggested that the pair had both struck each other in a fight with Rice knocking Palmer out in an elevator.

CCTV footage released by TMZ showed Rice dragging his fiancée out on an elevator by her arms; she appeared to be unconscious.

Now police have apparently obtained new footage that shows Rice striking Palmer shortly before he was spotted dragging her from the elevator.

Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, claimed that the video that was published by TMZ is Rice but doesn't show the whole picture.

"The video that has been put up by TMZ shows the very end of what transpired between Ray and his fiancee," Diamondstein said to ESPN.

Rice's appearance in court has been suspended indefinitely after the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office were called upon by the police department.

The NFL will also review the case under their own personal conduct policy.
