Left-back: Ashley Cole

Paolo Maldini is the obvious pick for this position, but because the majority of the great Italian's success came before the turn of the 21st Century, I feel that Ashley Cole is more deserving of his place in this particular World XI.

Quite simply, there hasn't been a more consistent left-back in world football over the last 14 years.

As well as making over 100 appearances for England during that period of time, the 33-year-old has also won multiple titles with both Arsenal and Chelsea, including three Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League.
