The Washington Wizards have been performing above all expectations so far this season.

And one of the major reasons behind their upsurge in form, has been the performances of their big man, Nene.

But Sunday night, during his team's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Brazilian went down with an injury which had Wizards fans preying it wasn't as bad as it looked.

Unfortunately it now seems the 31-year old could be facing a lengthy layoff.

The Washington Post reported today that some members of the franchise staff fear that he will not return this season - revealing that Nene is waiting on the results of an MRI exam which is scheduled for today.

Fans, and coaching staff, will be hoping prognosis is a little more positive that currently feared but should he be ruled out longterm it will be a big blow towards their season ambitions.

Nene has been averaging a career high 14.2 points per game this season as well as 5.8 rebounds.

And his form has been a catalyst for the Wizards .500 record which sees them 5th in the Eastern Conference.
