NFL and MLB teams named as finalists for Shorty Award

Three NFL teams and two MLB teams have been listed asfinalists for the 2014 Shorty award for Best Sports Team on Social Media.

the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers make up the finalists from the NFL.

The LA Dodgers and New York Mets are the finalists from the MLB and all have been named alongside Rebellion Racing and Aston Martin Racing as the seven finalists.

The Saints actually won the Shorty award for Best Sports Twitter account back in 2011 and over the last NFL season, earned a lot of views for their videos of Drew Brees' pre-game huddle videos.

All the teams have active social media accounts covering Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and most even have accounts on Pinterest.

Many other high profile names were in the running for the award before the seven finalists were named on Monday including Real Madrid, NHL side the Toronto Maple Leafs and even the current Super Bowl champions the Seattle Seahawks.

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony at the The TimesCenter at the New York Times building in New York City on April 7th.
