Five games scheduled for Monday night in the NBA as headlines were grabbed by Dirk Nowitzki who hit a buzzer beater to defeat the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

Nowitzki hit a mid range jump shot as time expired which rattled around the rim before somehow falling to give the Mavericks a 110-108 win over the home town New York Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony poured in a game high 44 points, including a clutch a three pointer to tie the game at 108 a piece but his efforts were in vain as the Mavericks stole the win in New York City.

The early game from the NBA saw the two teams with the worst records in the NBA face off in a high scoring affair as the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 130-110.

The 20-point victory for the Bucks was their highest of the season as they were lead by OJ Mayo who amassed 25 points in the contest, whilst for the 76ers Thaddeus Young had 28 points in response.

Elsewhere the Golden State Warriors were led by Stephen Curry, who recorded 19 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds in a 104-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons in the Palace.

The Warriors have now won four straight whilst the Pistons continue to struggle having lost the fifth game of their last six.

All-Stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul combined for 41 points in the Los Angeles Clippers 123-110 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans only counter was Anthony Davis who had 26 points along with 11 rebounds in the contest but New Orleans could not stay with the Clippers who shot the ball very well from three point range, especially Jamal Crawford who racked up seven three point field goals.

The final game of the evening saw the Boston Celtics visit the Utah Jazz who had the returning Derrick Favors to bolster their line-up with.
