Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard has been described as ‘different class’ following his seamless integration back into the club’s under-21 set-up having enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan with Birmingham City.

Lingard moved to St Andrew’s on an initial month-long loan last September and memorably scored four times on his debut for the Championship club against Sheffield Wednesday. The 21-year-old then saw his spell extended through to January, before being recalled by David Moyes.

The striker returned to Old Trafford at a time when both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney were fitness concerns for the manager, and it appeared Lingard was in with chance of being included in the Manchester United first-team.

Lingard has enjoyed no such luck, however, and is back in Warren Joyce’s reserve side with players his own age. Joyce, though, has praised the youngster for the exemplary attitude he has displayed since filing back into the ranks.

"Jesse has been different class," the under-21 manager told MUTV. "His attitude has been great, to come back from starring out on loan to playing Under-21 games that he was doing three years ago and also starring in.

“He still does the right things all the time. His work-rate was phenomenal and his decision-making was good plus it was a great goal for the boy again."
