Jadeveon Clowney should go number one in the draft - and here's why

Johnny Manziel? Terrible in the pocket, Teddy Bridgewater? Average at best, Blake Bortles? People have only just realised he exists.

Jadeveon Clowney? Well he's only a once in a generation physical specimen that can make quarterbacks shake in their cleats.

I am truly amazed that there is even a conversation to be had about who goes number one in the 2014 NFL Draft.

On a purely positional skill basis then there is no question at all about Clowney being the first name off the board. There is no Andrew Luck type quarterback to challenge.

Compared to Clowney's dominance at the line of scrimmage, the quarterbacks he is in contention with don't come anywhere near close.

I honestly believe that Clowney will end his career with more Pro Bowl appearances and All-Pro nominations than Manziel, Bortles and Bridgewater combined.

Clowney recorded 13 sacks and 23.5 tackles for a loss in his sophomore season, one of the best defensive outputs in college football history and an insane for a 19 year old against players with much more experience.

Sure he didn't play as well as he could have done last season, but it doesn't make him a worse player.

And to those that question his mentality and personality?

Give me a break! The NFL plays host to all sorts of thugs and convicts. A playing performing below himself in order to avoid injury is worse than Michael Vick's dogfighting or Ausar Walcott and Aaron Hernandez who've been charged with attempted murder and murder respectively.

These guys were fine in the NFL and Clowney isn't, really!?

If you take into account skill, physical ability, and NFL readiness then there is only one man who should be the first name called out in Radio City, New York on the 8th of May.

He's the 6"6, 266 pound beast of a man who can run a 4.53 40.

And you better get used to seeing him on SportsCenter.
