Sean Avery is set to join the cast of Dancing With the Stars, according to sources at the New York Post.

The former New York Rangers star has been spotted showing off his dancing skills in preparation for the new series of the popular ABC show in the New York studio of Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer Tracy Anderson.

It is reported that the video above is Avery himself taking on some Anderson-inspired dance moves to the tune of Katy Perry's Dark Horse hit.

Originally the video was posted by Avery himself, according to the New York daily, but was quickly taken down. Unfortunately for him, the video was picked up by a number of other users before such action was taken.

Avery's appearance on the show follows his failed attempts to enter the world of advertising.

He worked for the high-fashion ad agency Lipman but the company ran out of cash before closing last year.

Former athletes have done well on the show in the past, potential marking Avery as an early favourite for this year's title.

Other celebrities rumoured to be on the show include NeNe Leakes and Candace Cameron.
