Saints dismantle Salford to go top of Super League

St Helens maintained their 100% start to the Super League season with a dominant performance over a committed Salford outfit as they won out 38-0.

The result gave Saints their first taste of top spot in the league after a comprehensive victory that harked back to the days of the expansive Saints side of old.

Salford had no answer for the intense play of the visitors, which included solid defence throughout the game.

Saints took control of the game in the first half with tries from second-rower Jon Wilkin, and scrum-half Luke Walsh also dived on a loose ball to give the visitors a 12-0 half time lead.

The game was sealed in the second-half as Walsh guided his side around the field with precision helping Mark Percival to grab two scores, whilst forward Kyle Amor and Anthony Laffranchi barged over.

To cap off the win Walsh kicked seven goals as Saints eased to victory, with the playmaker clearly showing what a difference it makes to have strong pivot leadership that was lacking for them in 2013.
